The Plot
Two families with a deep grudge wish to show the world what true justice really is.
There is the Liberatore family, those who want to overthrow, or murder L to take his place, and the Innocenzo family, who want to succeed L whenever he chooses them.
The members of the Liberatores and the Innocenzos once started out as blood-related, but that is no longer so. The last true Liberatore or Innocenzo died out decades ago, with only their underlings left to adopt their ways, to carry on the long-standing grudge between the two.
And so, currently, no Innocenzo is related, nor is any Liberatore. Each current member gathered on their own, drawn to whichever side for their own personal agenda. And thus, each family grew, each member taught to loathe the other side.
The two groups were once united, commanded by one Epicurus-like, self-pleasing man, who was praised as the personification of justice. Some followers, offended by his selfish reasons, saw him as a fraud, and lost their faith. They became the Liberatore family, each member wanting to show the world what justice truly was...or perhaps to corrupt the world with their own image of justice. The ones who believed in their leader, who wanted to continue his method, are now the faithful Innocenzo family.
The Innocenzo family inherited the Wammy's House, which welcomes recruits who dream to follow in L's footsteps. The Liberatores fled, manipulating their fellow members of the underworld to do much of their bidding. With a piece of stolen inheritance money, they now live in underground mansions, bought off of anonymous suppliers. They, too, are open to new members.
However, each group is rightfully suspicious of anyone who tries to join. Even the richest, most influential individual will have to work hard to gain trust, and toil even harder to climb even a single step to the top.
Though each family has their own ethics, morals, and methods, their objective is the same:
Become L, and show the world what is right.
There is no peace within the families, either. The members fight among themselves for this crowning prize, brought together only because of their common enemy. There are no allies, only opportunities.
Originating in Italy, both families have currently spread their reach to most of Europe, taking up base in various parts of England, cautiously hidden away. People from all over the world take sides, either slipping into the underworld or striving within the protection of L's favor.
1960.
A war in the name of justice has been brewing for far too long.
